Advanced Eye Care Information

When it comes to eye care, there is a ton of information that is important to know. There are the basics and then there is more advanced eye care information, and especially if you suffer from eye problems or diseases yourself, you should be aware of this sort of information so that you can make sure that you are taking proper care of your eyes.

The Basic Eye Exam

One of the most common advanced eye care issues is the eye exam, which you should have done at least once a year. When it comes to the preparation needed for an eye exam, there is really nothing necessary for you to do, and if you plan to wear contact lenses you will want to let the optometrist performing the exam know this.

There are now eye exams available known as wavefront eye exams, which are able to identify even obscure vision errors that may now be corrected for the first time through LASIK, eyeglasses, or artificial lenses.

When it comes to advanced eye care information, there is one issue of particular importance, and that is the LASIK procedure. LASIK is a surgical procedure that is intended to reduce or even completely eliminate a patientís dependency on eyeglasses or contact lenses. During the procedure a knife is used to cut a flap in the cornea, and a hinge is left at one end of this flap.

The flap is then folded back revealing the stroma, and the surgeon reshapes the cornea as necessary, depending on whether the patient is nearsighted or farsighted, and the flap is then aligned as before and sealed shut.

Eye Diseases

Just as important in the matter of advanced eye care is the topic of eye diseases, and there are quite a few that you can develop. Some eye problems are minor and fleeting but then there are those which can even lead to a permanent loss of vision. Because it is almost impossible for a regular person to tell which are serious on their own, it is therefore crucial that you get yourself in for regular eye exams.

Early detection and treatment can prevent vision loss, and so you should see an eye care professional right away if you ever experience a change in vision or notice that you are having vision problems of any sort. Other symptoms that require immediate attention are pain, double vision, fluid coming from the eye, and inflammation, among many others.
